Americans can't keep stuff stock, un-modified, and un-touched. It's not in our nature. Many just have to hot-rod and personalize. WebEDIT TO ADD: I'd also point out that Clint Smith is renowned for carrying a 1911, and not in "GI stock" configuration - he carries a very highly customized Jason Burton 1911. I'm sure the gun is reliable, but in no universe is that 1911 anywhere near as reliable as even a lightly customized Glock.
